The students of the German School New Delhi completed their two-year social internship in March. They received their certificates from Dr. Jasper Wieck, Deputy Chief of Mission, German Embassy New Delhi.
Dr. Wieck congratulated the students and encouraged them to continue being socially engaged in the future.
The mission statement of the German School is to promote intercultural exchange with the host country, India, and its commitment to topics of global development.
The students participated in the youth program of the IGSSS (Indo Global Social Service Society) for the promotion of youth in the slum Baljeet Nagar in Delhi. It was a challenging week in which the students were incorporated into the work of the youth centre and got a close glimpse of life in a slum and depicted it in a graffiti thereafter.
Following this project, the students were in Auroville (Tamil Nadu) for one week at the Thamarai Learning & Culture Centre for Encouraging Creative Learning and later applied their learnings at the Bamboo Centre for Organic Cultivation and Processing of the Bamboo Raw Material. The students gained valuable experience to better understand the problems and potentials in the host country.
The next social internship is scheduled for early 2019.
