A Science Circle Lecture was organized by the German Embassy New Delhi in collaboration with the German House for Research and Innovation (DWIH) in New Delhi on 16th February.
The lecture on “Empowering Digital Media: Meaningful, Playful and Natural Human Computer Interaction” was delivered by Prof Dr Rainer Malaka, Professor of Digital Media, University of Bremen. Prof. Malaka’s work focusses on digital media, interaction, and entertainment computing. At the
University of Bremen, he is the director of the Graduate College “Empowering Digital Media” funded by the Klaus Tschira Foundation and is also the director of the TZI - the center for computing technologies.
Stephan Lanzinger, Head of the Science and Technology Section at the German Embassy, gave the welcome address. He stressed the importance of digital media and the digital revolution and underlined the potential for Indo-German collaboration in this field.
Prof. Malaka’s lecture focussed on how the new digital society operates, addressing the
topic of Human Computer Interaction – which shapes the way humans think, communicate and work. Additionally, the lecture also looked at the perspectives of HCI that support human abilities and motivate them in completing their everyday tasks.
Computer games that turn tedious work into playful activities, entertainment computing for HCI and various other examples of playful interaction were also discussed as a part of this event.
