Centre's 100-Day Education Agenda: More Institutions of Eminences, Recruitment
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has mapped out the first 100 days of second tenure’s education agenda. The Modi government hopes to unveil a new national education policy, fill five lakh vacant faculty positions in higher education, add ten institutes to the Institutions of Eminence (IoE) list, have a new Accreditation System, among other promises to be fulfilled by the HRD Ministry.
Times Higher Education Asia University Rankings 2019
Times Higher Education (THE) Asia University Rankings has been released, with several Indian Universities making a mark for themselves. THE's Asia University Ranking 2019 rank universities based on five broad parameters as used in the overall World University Rankings although weightage is calibrated and standardised. Out of 5 parameters, teaching carries a weightage of 25 per cent, while research and citations each carry weightage of 30 per cent, followed by international outreach and industry income carrying 7.5 per cent weightage each. Eight Indian Institutes, namely, Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bengaluru, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Indore , IIT Bombay, IIT Roorkee, JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Kanpur and IIT Delhi, were placed in top 100.
Northeast India’s first University to be awarded Rs 1000 Crore grant
The Ministry of Human Resources and Development (MHRD) has included the name of Assams’s Tezpur University amongst the top 10 universities to grant commission for its all round development. These top 10 universities will be awarded 1000 crore as grant by Rashtriya Uchhatar Siksha Abhiyan (RUSA). The teachers and selected people of the university will be sent to the advanced universities of America for advanced learning scope under this.
Dr. Harsh Vardhan retains Ministry of Science and Technology and Earth Sciences
A new Council of Ministers was formed for the Modi government. Dr. Harsh Vardhan retained Ministry of Science and Technology and Earth Sciences. He will also be the Minister of Health and Family Welfare. Ashwini Kumar Choubey will be the Minister of State in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. MHRD will be led by Mr. Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank and Prakash Javadekar moves to Enviroment, Forest and Climate Change Ministry and Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. D. Sanjay Shamrao will be Minister of State for MHRD. Department of Space and Department of Atomic Energy continue to stay with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

CfA: Master Transcultural Studies 2019
Heidelberg University welcomes applications for its 2-year Master Programme in Transcultural Studies. Across disciplines and national borders, students from around the globe can explore the dynamics of cultural exchanges. The emphasis lies on Asian, predominantly East and South Asian, and European cultures. The M.A. Transcultural Studies is a research-oriented, interdisciplinary programme in the humanities and social sciences with a transregional focus. It offers a wide range of courses within an international research environment. Applicants must hold a B.A. or equivalent (minimum three years of study) in a discipline of the humanities or social sciences.

Call for Papers for the international workshop “Formalisation, Informalisation and the Labour Process: Comparative Perspectives”
An International Workshop on the topic ‘Formalisation, Informalisation and the Labour Process: Comparative Perspectives’ will be held from November 20-22 2019 at Georg-August-University, Göttingen. Papers are invited from social and historical sciences. These might be based on empirical research, or draw upon more theoretical accounts, with a focus on labour in a particular region of the world as well as between them. The main themes to be covered are Transformation of production, Work place and its routine, Politics of the Labour Process and Social Reproduction and Household Strategies.

ICAS:MP invites multiple Senior and Postdoctoral Short-Term Fellowships
The M.S. Merian – R. Tagore International Centre of Advanced Studies “Metamorphoses of the Political: Comparative Perspectives on the Long Twentieth Century” (ICAS:MP), a project under the aegis of the Max Weber Stiftung India Branch Office, advertises multiple fellowships for the academic year July 2020-June 2021. ICAS:MP offers a fellowship programme for senior and postdoctoral scholars whose research focuses on at least one of the ICAS research themes like History as a Political Category, Labour as a Political Category, Critiques and Renewals of Democracy, Normative Conflicts and Transformations, The Challenge of Gender and Political Economy of Growth and Distribution. Interested applicants from related social sciences and humanities disciplines working on thematic fields relevant to ICAS:MP are invited to apply.

Open Call for Indo-German Bilateral Workshops
The Indo-German Science & Technology Centre (IGSTC) invites proposals for organising Indo-German workshops on areas of mutual interest with an aim towards creating platforms for substantive interactions between scientists / researchers from academia and industry. The workshops have to take place in India or in Germany and to be designed around a specific research topic out of thematic areas relevant to both DST and BMBF, which includes the thematic areas of 2+2 project calls. Any other relevant topics of very high importance may also be considered. Persons holding regular positions in public or private non-profit research organisations, institutions of higher education and universities are eligible to submit applications.

Funding Opportunities for Indo-German Fundamental Research Projects in the Life Sciences
The Department of Biotechnology (DBT) and the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) inform the Indian and German scientific communities that effective immediately, it is possible for teams of Indian and German researchers to seek synchronised funding for integrated Indo-German cutting-edge fundamental research projects proposing innovative approaches in the academic disciplines covered by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India, with a duration of up to three years.
Cooperation on Research & Innovation between DBT and the EU in Horizon 2020 Work Programmes
Indian researchers, universities, research organisations and enterprises can team up with European partners to participate in collaborative projects under ‘Horizon 2020’, the funding programme for research and innovation of the European Union. The Department of Biotechnology (DBT) and the European Commission (EC) have agreed to establish a Co-Funding Mechanism, by which DBT will fund Indian partners in a collaborative project. Research partners from Indian Government supported academia, research organisations and urban or other local bodies, NGOs and research foundations are eligible for funding.
Call for Applications: ‘Cultures of archival research in Germany and India’
The Indian Council of Historical Research (ICHR), New Delhi and the German Research Foundation (DFG) announce a joint call for research proposals addressing the theme of ‘Cultures of Archival Research in Germany and India’. In order to promote critical reflection on archives and their uses by historians, a transnational workshop is being planned which will take place in Germany: first in Marburg between 15 and 18 May 2019, and later in Berlin between 18 and 21 May 2019. The workshop is particularly addressed to about 20 doctoral students and post-doctoral researchers from Germany and India who have already gained some experience in archival research. German participants should be working on aspects of the history of India while Indian participants should be interested in theoretical and methodological questions of archives.
