The Indo-German Energy Forum – a yearly bilateral dialogue on energy at secretary level – was set up in 2006. An extensive bilateral development cooperation complements this political dialogue – with a strong focus on renewable energies and energy efficiency.
Indo-German cooperation in this sector recognises the crucial role energy plays for the two countries as well as the potential for cooperation in this field, be it in efficient thermal power generation or renewable energies.
Energy is one of the three areas of Indo-German development cooperation that Germany and India agreed on in 2008. The objectives of this cooperation are to decouple growth from rising energy demands, develop sources of renewable energy, increase energy efficiency and introduce energy sector reforms.
