Very rarely will you find as many unique sites of natural and cultural interest situated so closely together as in Germany. As of 2015, there are 40 UNESCO World Heritage sites in Germany that have been designated as sites of “extraordinary universal interest”, and have been placed under the protection of international conventions. Of these, 37 are cultural, and three, natural heritage sites.
