If you plan to live in Germany for a period of more than 90 days, you will need a German national visa.

The Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Mumbai can only accept visa applications of persons residing in the states of  Maharashtra, Gujarat, Goa, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh as well as the Union Territories of Daman and Diu and Dadra and Nagar Haveli.

If you plan to live and work or study in Germany for a period of more than 90 days, you will need a German national visa. Please note that for German National Visas, a personal interview at your German Mission is mandatory.

Types of National Visas: Student visa, Employment visa, Training or Internship visa, Guest Scientist/Research visa, Family Reunion visa, Job-seeker visa, Au Pair visa, Speciality cook visa, and Intended marriage visa.

Please Note: Every National-Visa applicant may book ONLY ONE appointment with the VFS. Multiple booking of appointments will NOT be accepted by the German Consulate in Mumbai. In case of multiple bookings for one person, the applicant will lose both/all bookings, and will have to re-apply with the VFS for a later appointment.

Fees for German National visas:

AdultsEUR 75 or 6,100 INR
Minors (0-17 years)EUR 37.5 or 3,100 INR

(In some cases, visa fees may be waived.)

You are NOT required to submit your overseas travel medical insurance at the time of visa application. However, submission of this document is mandatory once you have received a visa approval, and the insurance will have to be submitted along with your passport at the time of visa stamping.

Verification of Indian documents: Verification of your documents is likely to be required in cases of those applying for a i) Speciality cook visa ii) Job-seeker visa iii) Family Re-union visa or iv) Marriage visa.
The duration of investigation may last between 8-12 weeks.
The document verification fee is Rs. 45000 (exclusive of the visa processing fees)  and payable by demand draft only.
The fees for document verification is required to be paid at the time of your visa interview. If document verification is not required, the visa officer will inform you accordingly at the time of the interview and you will not be required to pay the verification fee of Rs. 45000.

Information on German knowledge requirement: Spouses applying for a Family Re-union visa are required to present evidence of basic knowledge of the German language. However, under certain circumstances, there are exemptions from this requirement e.g. for spouses of EU passport holders, of Blue Card holders, of scientist or other highly skilled workers, etc.
Please note that the German Missions can ONLY accept German language certificates issued by language institutes fulfilling ALTE-Standard, i.e. Goethe Institute (Max Mueller Bhavan) or Österreichisches Sprachdiplom Deutsch (ÖSD). Read more (in German)
