On October 15th, Luisa Wegener and Tina Debenham of the German Embassy in New Delhi visited a project in the far east of Bhutan. Children and teenagers at the Draktsho Vocational Training Centre for Special Children and Youth welcomed the two members of the Embassy not only with a positive attitude and smiles, but also with music, traditional dances and games.

The students at the school near Trashigang are very creative and skilled in handicrafts and arts, which are sold for example at the airport in Paro, so it was no surprise that the visit of the Embassy staff was a colourful event.
The German Embassy has a longstanding, good relationship with the Bhutanese NGO Draktsho and has supported them in cooperation with the British NGO “Opening your Heart to Bhutan” in building a girls hostel and a dining hall with kitchen. The 79 children and teenagers and 6 staff members are eagerly awaiting the dining hall to be finished, so they can properly cook and eat together, especially in the cold winter months.
