On 3 June 3 2026, Germany lifted the requirement for Indian nationals to hold an airport transit visa. Indian nationals therefore no longer require an airport transit visa to enter the transit area of a German airport during a stopover or for a connecting flight.

This decision follows Federal Chancellor Merz’s visit to India in January 2026. It underscores the Federal Government’s commitment to deepening German-Indian relations, facilitating travel between both countries and bolstering their economic ties.

The INR value on the website needs to be referred to while preparing the draft, kindly do not make it as per the daily exchange rate.

Visa fees might change on short notice subject to change in exchange rate. Therefore, you are requested to check the current visa fees prior to your appointment.

The visa section would not be able to accept your application with a wrong demand draft that has a wrong amount, spelling errors and not prepared as per the specified guidelines of the demand draft form. Please adhere to the exact alignment with respect to the date, amount (figures and words), beneficiary address written in the draft.

The new visa fees from 27/08/2026:

If you submit your visa application at the VFS visa application centre: Please note that there is a delay before the application reaches the Consulate. Therefore, the new fees will already take effect at VFS
• from 26/08/2026 for Schengen visas and
• from 26/08/2026 for national visas

The new fees for long-term/national visas are as follows:
