Small Scale Projects

17.07.2018 - Article

The German Consulate General in Kolkata runs a programme for small scale cooperation projects in the Indian States of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Jharkhand, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Odisha, Tripura and West Bengal.

Funded by the Federal Foreign Office, small scale projects address the needs of the underprivileged parts of society, alongside the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals with a clear focus on “helping people to help themselves” and aiming at funding a sustainable improvement of living conditions. Preference is generally given to projects in the fields of education, vocational training, income-generation, energy supply and protection of the environment etc. Projects promoting gender equality receive particular consideration. The target group benefitting from the micro-project should be actively involved in the project.

Due to conflict of interest, the Consulate General cannot support projects co-sponsored by other organisations that receive contributions from the German Federal Budget (e.g. European Union, United Nations).

Conditions:

  • Requested funding should amount to approx. EUR 15.000 - 20.000 for each project.
  • The applicant organisation must be registered under the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA).
  • The project location has to be within our jurisdiction.
  • The project must be a distinct, full project in itself, not part of a bigger project.
  • The project has not started yet.
  • The project has to support least privileged members of society.
  • The project has to promote gender equality.
  • The applicant organisation has to contribute an appropriate amount of own financial resources to the total project cost.
  • The applicant organisation and benefitting local population have to contribute to the project through workforce, overhead expenses like administration, travelling, transportation etc.
  • Coverage of potential follow-up costs after the completion of the project needs to be ensured.
  • Project duration: approx. 6 months, project must be fully completed before the end of the calendar year (31.12.).
  • No funding of the following costs: food/refreshments, overhead costs (administration, permanent staff, office equipment like computers, printers, television, etc.), land purchase, unskilled labour, scholarships, lump sums.
