Job Vacancy: Assistant Desk Officer for Economic Affairs and Public Relations
The Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Bengaluru invites applications for the full-time position of Assistant Desk Officer for Economic and Public Relations (40 hours/week) beginning from 17 August 2026. The Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Bengaluru is responsible for the states of Karnataka and Kerala.
Responsibilities:
- Establish and maintain relationships with companies, industry associations, and government representatives responsible for economic affairs, as well as with media representatives
- Identify and assess relevant economic and policy developments in Karnataka and Kerala and prepare briefings and analyses for senior management
- Draft speeches, presentations, press releases and other communication materials
- Support participation of the German Consulate in business and public relations events
- Support initiatives related to mobility of skilled workers between Germany and Karnataka and Kerala
- Coordinate and support high-level delegation visits, including preparation, hosting, and follow-up activities
- Manage the German Consulate's social media presence, including the creation of content
- Maintain relationships with German agencies for international development cooperation and monitor their activities and initiatives
- Organise and coordinate events related to your field of work
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s or preferably a Master’s degree in a relevant field, with a minimum of three years of relevant professional experience
- German language skills at least at B2 level, preferably C1 or C2
- Sound knowledge of relevant German and Indian institutions in the field of economic and government affairs
- Strong understanding of economic and political developments in Germany and Karnataka and Kerala
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with senior representatives from public and private sector organisations
- Strong knowledge of social media communication strategies and content creation
- Good understanding of the media landscape in Karnataka and Kerala
- Fluency in written and spoken English
- Highly organised team player with the ability to work independently and under pressure
- Ability and willingness to accommodate occasional work commitments outside regular working hours, including evening and weekend events
- Willingness to work in a multicultural environment
The Consulate General offers a one-year contract with the possibility of extension. The starting salary will be 137.500 INR (basic) gross per month + transport and housing allowance of 7.500 INR. We take part in Employees' Provident Fund (EPF).
