Consul General (designate) Michael Hasper
Michael Hasper is a German career diplomat and has been Consul General (designate)at the German Consulate in Chennai since August 2025.
He is married to the Indian fashion designer Anjana Das. They have an adult daughter.
Prior to his appointment in Chennai, Michael Hasper served at the German Embassy in Washington as Head of the Department for Communication and Culture from 2021 to 2025.
He was the Head of the Division for Global Communication at the German Federal Foreign Office from 2017 to 2021.
From 2013 to 2017 Michael Hasper was the Deputy Chief of Mission of the German Embassy in Manila, Philippines.
Michael Hasper started his career as a German diplomat in India where he served as Consul at the German Consulate General in Madras/Chennai from 1996 to 1999. He was also the Spokesperson of the German Embassy in New Delhi from 2005 to 2009.
Michael Hasper entered the German Foreign Service in 1993.
He was a desk officer at the Human Rights Division of the Federal Foreign Office in Berlin from 1993 to 1996.
From 1999 to 2000 he was a desk officer at the Division for the United States of America and Canada at the German Federal Foreign Office in Berlin.
From 2001 to 2002 Michael Hasper was Chief of Staff of the Coordinator for the Relations between Germany and France at the German Federal Foreign Office in Berlin.
From 2002 to 2005 Michael Hasper was Head of the Political Department of the German Embassy in Bangkok.
2009 to 2013 he was Head of Strategic Communication at the German Federal Foreign Office´s Policy Planning Staff.
Before joining the German Foreign Service, Michael Hasper graduated with honors from the Diplomatic Academy Vienna and received the degree of Magister Artium in History from the Georg-August University in Göttingen.
