On yesterday’s World Day against Trafficking in Persons 2018, German Deputy Consul General Mr. Jürgen Thomas Schrod visited the NGO “Missing Link Trust” in the Sunderbans to meet with the beneficiaries of the toilets and the pilot livelihood program in Kultoli. A total number of 104 toilets are being built and are financed by the German Consulate General Kolkata under the small scale projects scheme.
West Bengal accounts for 44% of all trafficking victims in India. Economic empowerment will play an important role in shaking the status quo in the Kultali block. Realising the importance of women empowerment, Consulate General Kolkata used the profits of their Charity Christmas Market 2017 to set-up the first tailoring unit with the “Missing Link Trust” under the livelihood programme where the village women have the opportunity to acquire a skill-set and become financially independent.
