My visa application got rejected. What can I do?
Upon receiving an official letter rejecting a visa application, the applicant has two possibilities:
1. The applicant may file a lawsuit against the rejection. The application will then be re-assessed by the administrative court in Berlin.
2. The applicant may apply again for a visa any time (with additional information and documentation, see below).

Why did I receive a rejection of my visa application and can I apply again?
Please be aware of the fact that a reason for rejection has already been given in the rejection letter. The visa section will not give any additional explanations regarding the same.

There is no “cooling / locking period” after receiving a rejection. You may submit a new application. We recommend to check the remarks and further explanations given in the rejection letter, to go through the checklists carefully and to attach all the necessary documents to your new application.
Based on our experience, most rejections are the result of incomplete or unverifiable documentation.

Information about how to file a lawsuit
The applicant has the possibility to file a lawsuit with the administrative court in Berlin (Verwaltungsgericht Berlin). Please explain in your lawsuit in detail why the rejection and our given reasons are unfounded from your view. If necessary, you can add further documents, which have not yet been submitted with the original application.

The deadline for filing a lawsuit is one (1) month after receiving the refusal.

More information about the procedure and the costs of the lawsuit can be found here:

Kindly note: The visa section is not allowed to give legal advice. For information about visa-relevant issues, please refer to the public information or seek individual legal advice.
