Bengaluru is renowned as the 'Silicon Valley of India'. Over the years, it has grown into a global technology and startup hub, ranking second in the Asia-Pacific region. Bengaluru is home to numerous multinational corporations, over 400 global R&D centres and research institutions with cutting-edge facilities, and 4000+ startups.
The city's investment-friendly policies, combined with the availability of talent and capital, make it an attractive destination for German companies seeking growth and innovation in sectors like IT, aerospace, biotech, and sustainability. Several German firms, including SAP, Continental, Mercedes-Benz, Siemens Healthineers, and ZEISS, have established their largest R&D centres and export hubs outside Europe in Bengaluru.
For companies or startups looking to expand or begin operations, Bengaluru offers a dynamic business environment with a robust foundation for research, innovation, and industry collaboration. The Start2 Group offers support to German startups in their journey through its German Accelerator programme - funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK). Additionally, the German Indian Startup Exchange Program (GINSEP), also supported by BMWK, fosters collaboration between the Indian and German startup ecosystems by building a network that helps startups succeed in entering new markets in both countries.
Multinational Corporations (MNCs) in Bengaluru run startup incubation programmes and offer venture capital to help innovators scale up. These companies act as catalysts, fostering a collaborative ecosystem that connects businesses and startups to implement innovative strategies on a large scale. Key programmes include SAP.iO, Wipro AI Accelerator, Wipro Ventures, Axilor Ventures, Bosch Grow Platform, Infosys Innovation Network, Capgemini Ventures.
Support from organizations like National Association of Software and Service Companies (NASSCOM), Invest Karnataka, Karnataka Digital Economy Mission (KDEM) and Karnataka Biotechnology and Information Technology Services (KBITS) play a critical role in supporting technology investments, uncovering technology opportunities.
Bengaluru also provides a rich ecosystem for research and industry-academia collaboration, with institutions such as the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR), Aeronautical Development Establishment (DRDO), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research - National Aerospace Laboratories (CSIR-NAL), Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA), Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Bangalore and the National Institute of Advanced Studies (NIAS).
